What is Finn2Finn Forum? (Mikä se on, Finn2Finn Forum?) |

Welcome!I was born in Turku, Finland...currently living in south-western USA. My immediate family - parents, self, two brothers - emigrated to Canada when I was four years old. All my cousins, aunts, uncles - whole clan - still live in Finland. I have been back to Finland a number of times since my childhood. I'll never forget what a joy it was for me to discover that I had so many cousins around my own age - instant connections! Instant friendship! It was magical! So were the summers at the lake. Only one of the 1st generation progeny of our 'suku' in Canada (and USA) speaks Finnish. How sad. I hope this Forum - Finn2Finn - and my blog (finn2finnfun.blogspot.com) will connect Finns and Friends of Finland around the world, and that they will migrate to Finn2Finnforum to get to share experiences and - if they so choose - get know one another across the miles. Finland is the best place to live! (Suomi on paras maa asua)“Mexico may be the best place to retire, but a Reader's Digest study claims that Finland is the best place to live. So, what makes Finland so special? Among other things, the Scandinavian country boasts great air and water quality, low rates of infant diseases, and protection from water pollution and natural disasters. Although it wasn't mentioned in the article, universal health care is always important to me, and Finland, like all Scandinavian countries, takes care of its citizens' health.” http://www.gadling.com/2007/10/08/finland-names-best-place-to-live/ |

Finns in Finland are racist! (Suomalaiset ovat rasistisia)Actually, remarks such as this were made in many different ways on several forums that I visited while doing research for my F2FF blogs. Quite frankly, the comments shocked me. I was last in Finland in 1994 and I do not recall seeing Finns acting or talking like racists. So what has happened since 1994? If you check out F2FF Journeys you'll see an article on Muslims in Finland. Seems they are very much a part of the community and have been for some time. Other news reports on the web suggest that Finland has been welcoming Chinese workers since 2002 in large numbers. So what's the truth? Anybody out there have an opinion? |

Opinion: Eirick Granqvist (China Daily 2008-04-15)"I was very shocked by what I had seen on the television and in China Daily about the riots in Lhasa. The most shocking thing for me was not the cruel events themselves but how the media in my country of origin, Finland, reported the events." |
